Meet Advising

Connie Montgomery, the director of advising and recruitment for the Evening Degree Program, has been with the program since its beginnings in 1990. She oversees the advising office and recruitment of students for the program. Connie said she never ceases to be amazed and inspired by accomplishments of Evening Degree students. A native of Lewiston, Idaho, she has a bachelor's degree in social science from Washington State University and two master's degrees in education from Oregon State University and Seattle University. She also officiates wedding and life partner ceremonies in her spare time.

Emily Batlan, Academic Counselor, Senior, has been with the Evening Degree Program since 2002. Emily brings a passion for students and student service. Prior to UW, she was an Assistant Director of Admissions at Cornish College of the Arts. A theater artist in Seattle for over 15 years, Emily performed with many local theaters including Annex Theater, Alice B. Theater, Seattle Public Theater and Seattle Mime Theater. Her original solo performances have been performed at On The Boards (NW New Works, 12 Minutes Max) and Bumbershoot. Emily holds an MA Ed. from Antioch University Seattle and a B. A. in Political Science from Willamette University. In her free time, Emily enjoys the arts, scooters, exploring various forms of movement, and spending time with friends (both human and animal).

Stacey Fontes, Program Coordinator, finds working with students in higher education motivational and rewarding. Stacey has a B.A. in English and a B.A. in comparative ethnic studies from Washington State University. In the next few years she hopes to earn a master’s degree emphasizing student development. In her free time she enjoys cooking, traveling, and being active.

Suki Kwon, Senior Counselor, has recently joined the Evening Degree Program and is excited to work with such a diverse group of students. Originally from Seoul, Suki has lived in Northwest since 1997. Suki has served as an academic adviser for the past 10 years including work at Oregon State University, University of Oregon, and Seattle University. Suki graduated from Oregon State University in 2001 and received her B.A. in English and M.Ed. in College Student Services Administration with focus on counseling. In her free time, Suki enjoys manga, painting, and cooking.
