Steps to apply to the HIHIM major

1. Review the admission requirements.

2. Schedule an appointment with an adviser.

Note: Prospective applicants should bring unofficial transcripts for all college work for review at this appointment. The adviser will determine whether admission and prerequisite requirements have been met and will assist in developing an academic plan.

3. Apply to Evening Degree and to the HIHIM Major.

Admission to the HIHIM major is competitive. The program only admits students once each year. Accepted students will begin their course of study in summer each year.

  • Current UW students: You do not need to apply to the Evening Degree Program. However, you must submit an application to the HIHIM major by April 15 to start in the summer.

  • Returning former UW students: If you have not been enrolled for more than one quarter (not including Summer Quarter), complete two applications: an Evening Degree, Returning Former Student Reenrollment Application and an application to the HIHIM major. To receive priority consideration, the HIHIM program application is due by April 15. You should also submit your reenrollment form by April 15.

  • Transfer students: Apply for admission to both the Evening Degree Program and to the HIHIM major. To receive priority consideration, both applications should be submitted by April 15.

  • International students: Apply to both the Evening Degree Program and to the HIHIM major by April 15 for Summer Quarter.

  • All applications to the Evening Degree Program are available on this Web site; see How to Apply.

  • Download the following two HIHIM major documents (both are PDF files; viewing them requires the free Adobe Reader software)

Application Review

The application review period begins on April 16. Review response letters are mailed by mid-May.

Applicant review is based on five criteria:

  • Prerequisite completion
  • Cumulative GPA
  • Prerequisite GPA
  • Health care experience
  • Written statement
