  • Storage, retrieval, tracking and retention systems

Prerequisites: Statistics, Human Anatomy

412 – Health Care Coding, Vocabulary and Revenue Cycle Management (5)

  • ICD9-CM and CPT 4 code systems used to code diagnosis and procedures for research, decision support and billing purposes
  • Overview of special vocabularies: SNOMED, LOINC, nursing vocabularies for medical concepts
  • Revenue cycle management concepts and practice

Prerequisite: HIHIM 409

420 – Health Care Computer Systems and Electronic Health Records (5)

  • Health informatics and current computer applications in health care
  • Technology infrastructure and health informatics standards
  • Electronic health records, functions, planning, implementation, issues and barriers
